Fatehpur

Fatehpur is a historical town in Shekhawati region of Rajasthan that is known as much for its historical significance, the impact it made on the region and the deep cultural roots that the town possesses. The famous town was established in 1451 by the Muslim Nawabs and was later takne over in the 18th century by the Shekhawati Rajputs. Today, the town stands as a symbol of opulence and might of the local merchants and its richly painted havelis belonging to Choudhuri, Poddars and Ganeriwalas families are known throughout the world for their artistic brilliance.

Fatehpur

As with other nearby regions of Shekhawati, Fatehpur too is famous for its grand havelis with splendid frescos. The ‘Bawdis’ which are found in large numbers here are also the center of attraction. The village also serves as ideal spot for excursion to the two nearby towns -Lakshmangarh and Mandawa.

Fatehpur Attractions

Mahaveer Prasad Goenka havelis: One of Fatehpur’s star attraction, the havelis was built is 1885 and showcases some of the best frescos in perfect match of color and design.

Haveli Nadine Le Prince: This haveli was originally built in 1802 by the Deora family and was later purchased by a French artist Nadine Le Prince after whom it was renamed. In 1909, the palace along with its murals and frescos was entirely restored to its original by Nadine Le Prince. The Frenchwomen is herself a well known artist and had done much to preserve and restore the wonderful and unique heritage of havelis in Shekhawati. haveli-nadine-le-prince

The Jagannath Singhania Haveli: Consturcted between 1857 and 1860, this 50 feet high Haveli has some of the finest paintings in the region. Frescos of Radha and Krishna are especially famous amongst the visitors. Its other attractions include the 9 – Door room, the Baithak, Bara Dari built in Persian and Moghul architecture, Rangeen Kamra, Bhuran etc.

Harkishan Das Saraogi Haveli and Vishnunath Keria Haveli are the other two famous Havelis of Fatehpur worth visiting.

The village of Fatehpur also has a deep religious culture which is apparent not only in various customs but also in some sacred monuments and temples. People from both Hindu and Muslim religions exists here and two of its highly frequented destinations include Dargah of Hazrat Nazmudin and Temple of Do-Janti Balaji Dham. Additionally, visitors may also visit the local bazaar where artisans recreate the antic furnishings resembling those from the bygone period that one may take away as a prized possession.
