Mandawa Castle
Mandawa Castle lets you experience the royalty and opulence that was once the prerogative of only the rich and mighty. As you enter through its imposing façade, your arrival is celebrated in a style reminiscent to the one accorded to Maharaja’s of the past. A lavishly decorated camel ride lets you meander through the alleys inside, with rolling drums and blowing trumpets announcing your arrival to the inhabitants. A traditional Indian Welcome comprising of Tilak, Aarti and Garland follows, and by the time you check-in to your luxurious suite, the taste of lavishness and royalty would have transferred you into the ere of yore.
With its imposing size, strategic location and towering presence, the Mandawa Castle dominates the town of Manadawa- inarguably the most famous destination in the historical town. Located at the heart of Shekhawati region, the fort came into existence in the year 1775 when Thakur Nawal Singh decided to build a monument that shall endure and last the test of time. Royalty and rich history was always its trademark, and Thakur Nawal Singh himself was an descendant of Rao Shekhaji-the founder of Nawalgarh City. The castle is located at a distance of 260 kms from Delhi, 200 kms from Bikaner and 165 kms from Jaipur.
The interiors of the Castle are equally astounding, with all the characteristics of Rajput architecture beautifully on display. The drawing room named Diwan Khana showcases the best of carvings and murals. The high-ceiled Darbar Hall has its huge walls adorned with family memorabilia of the royal family. The colonial verandah is an excellent spot for lazing around. Not to forget the formal dining room housing paintings and murals worth watching.
The exquisite accommodation at Mandawa Castle is another highlight- as the 70 luxurious rooms of the Heritage Hotel are all unique in their style, design and architecture. The assorted paintings, jade, costumes and antiques will leave a long lasting impression upon you. Known for its vibrant nightlife, Castle Mandawa has fire-dancers, folk performers to liven up the occasion-as you savor the candle lit dinner in the courtyard or the terrace. The terrace offers spectacular bird’s eye view of the surrounding village with tiny temples, Haveli and cenotaphs in view. Even the twinkle of oil lamps in the distant villages resembles the twinkling of stars. Overall, Castle Mandawa is one of the foremost monuments not only in Mandawa but in the whole of Rajasthan. A must see for anyone visiting Mandawa.
